Nim Coffee Table
2023

Born from the curiosity of expanding the natural colour palette of fabric by breaking it down to its smallest unit — the thread, this project investigates how different textiles respond to blending and how varying combinations and ratios of fibres can affect the textures and visual patterning of colour.

The Nim Coffee Table combines this exploration of fibre behaviour with a study in moulded fabric. Fabric scraps are saturated with starch, layered, and compressed within a 3D-printed mould. Made from dark blue denim, yellow cotton, and muted green cotton, the top half features a higher proportion of denim, which is blended longer to produce a more uniform grain and a deep blue tone. In contrast, the bottom half contains more yellow and green cotton, blended briefly to preserve a patchier texture where individual colours remain visible.
